Nissan India is launching the updated, 2014 version of its mid-size sedan, the Sunny on July 3. The Sunny that was originally launched as Nissan’s affordable entry-level family sedan, is known to offer class-leading rear seat space and a good VFM proposition. Its update includes a little lip-and-tuck to make it look more appealing. The cosmetic changes include a new front-end design that incorporates a new bumper and grille that look similar to the more expensive Teana. The angular fascia gives the car a much more cohesive design form with an added dose of sportiness. There is a lot of chrome too, adding to the bling factor. The rear hasn’t changed much, though there is a new bumper. The twelve-spoke alloy wheels are new and unique in their design, as are the turn indicator-integrated ORVMs.

The previously bland interiors have been spruced up with piano black surround on the central console, a large 5.5-inch display flanked by buttons for media and phone connectivity, sportier dials, and new steering mounted controls. The cabin is draped in combinations of light and dark grey along with subtle chrome highlights and dark trims for the door handles.

The same petrol and diesel engine options are carried over. The 1.5-litre petrol motor is mated to either a 5-speed manual, producing 98bhp or a CVT that makes 100bhp. The versatile K9K dCi 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel develops 85bhp and delivers power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Both engines are known to be quite frugal if a little dull. Nissan has tweaked the ECU on the diesel motor to deliver more efficiency.

We expect the 2014 Sunny to have a similar price tag as the out-going model.
