2015 Audi TT launched at Rs 60.34 lakh
Luxury car manufacturers in the country have certainly started their respective pushes to dominance. The closest battles, in terms of sales has been between Germans, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Audi has added to its line up today by launching the 2015 TT coupe at Rs 60.34 lakh (ex-pan India), a 5 lakh rupee bump up compared to the previous generation version sold in India earlier. We’ve tested it, and we liked it the new TT as it properly recalls what a two-door, four-seater (barely) sports car is supposed to be like.
This 3rd generation model is based on VW’s modular MQB platform and as such is more rigid, yet lighter (by 50kg) than the previous generation model, aided in part by Audi’s Space Frame Technology. It isn’t suprising that the car borrows its sharp and sporty looks from other new generation Audi’s. The LED Matrix headlamp units also make an appearance.
The interiors are all-new, with Audi’s vritual cockpit dominating the dashboard, as is the new multi-function flat-bottomed steering and Bang & Olufsen music player with 12 speakers, 2 woofers and 14 channel amplifier.
The TT’s engine is a 1984cc, four-pot, trubo-petrol mill that makes 227bhp at 4500–6200rpm and 370Nm at 1600–4300rpm, and comes mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic unit sending power to all-four wheels via Audi’s patented quattro. A kerb weight of just 1335kg means that the coupe will hit the ton mark in a VBOX tested 6.1 seconds and go on to reach an electronically limited 250kmph.
Despite being a CBU, Audi India has pegged the TT’s price well, considering its direct (-ish) rivals, the Porsche Cayman (Rs 81 lakh) and the BMW Z4 (Rs 74.9 lakh), are much pricier, though they do acually offer seating for four. Besides, no one buying this one is going to be looking for that.
