Fiat has confirmed a six-speed automatic transmission and a high definition TFT display for the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth which will debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The iconic hot hatch from the Italian manufacturer’s stable will feature a 7-inch high-definition TFT cluster display in its latest avatar. The cluster displays information regarding speed and fuel consumption while the main screen shows information on distance travelled, fuel efficiency and range. The TFT display will also function with the rear parking assist as a parking camera. The new 500 Abarth also features a redesigned center console and new paint schemes including Modern pearl yellow, Bright metallic yellow and billet silver.

The new 500 Abarth will give prospective customers a choice if shifting gears manually is a chore. The 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio will feature an optional six-speed automatic transmission sourced from Aisin. The Aisin AW6F25 auto ‘box has been upgraded with more clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment for higher torque capability according to the manufacturer. The transmission will be paired with Fiat’s now famous 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo engine. The pro-manual transmission side will be glad that Fiat has retained the manual option for that pure feel.

The basic idea behind the technology is to control the intake valves to deliver what Fiat claims will result in up to 10 per cent more power, 15 per cent more torque and a reduction in consumption by 10 per cent when compared to an engine without the technology.

Confirming our report in April, Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and Managing Director, FIAT Chrysler Automobiles India, has confirmed the India entry of the Abarth brand in the last quarter of this year to the reporters in Kochi, yesterday. India will not see the 2015 model for a while as we will get the last generation 500 Abarth however, it is possible that they might offer the automatic transmission if enough enthusiasm and sales are generated.
