Skoda has offically taken the wraps off the new Skoda Fabia which is slated to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October, though this hatchback isn’t expected in India any time soon. Skoda plans to concentrate on its more premium cars starting with the Rapid sedan, the Octavia and the Superb.

The new images, courtesy of the Czech manufacturer, show almost exactly what we saw in the sketch they had published earlier, the Skoda VisionC concept has heavily influenced the hatchback. Typical of the new generation of Skodas, the strong angular lines, large grille with vertical slats, and the logo prominent on the creased muscular bonnet all are part of the family look. The rear is reminiscent of the current on-sale (not in India) Fabia though suitably updated, continuing the VisionC’s bold design language.

The next-generation Skoda Fabia is 90mm wider, stands 30mm lower and weighs only 980kg (base 1.0-litre model) compared to the on-sale model. Skoda will offer completely new interiors which will be versatile and can be tailored to individual tastes.

Four new petrol and three new diesel engines will be offered with the new Fabia which are EU6 compliant and offer up to 17 per cent better fuel economy. Transmission options will include a DSG automatic and a manual gearbox. The petrol engines come from VW’s modular MQB family and come in three-cylinder and four-cylinder configuration. Two 1.0-litre, three-pot engines with indirect injection and two 1.2-litre turbocharged direct injection engines are offered. Power ranges from 59bhp and 108bhp.

The diesel engine is a three-cylinder 1.4-litre common-rail-direct-injection in multiple states of tune, from 74bhp to 104bhp. The 74bhp tune will be the most efficient engine in Skoda’s stable (besides the CNG-powered Citigo G-TEC) returning a claimed 32kmpl.
