Now you know why the previous Mini was not assembled in India! Here’s the all-new, from the ground up, Mini, that has just broken cover and will come shortly to India, probably assembled in Chennai to lower excise duty and taxes to make for more sensible pricing.

HUD shows speed, navigation direction, collision warning, junction sketches, speed limit info, check control messages and entertainment programs. Central power window switches are now found on doors. Selector lever with Mid, Sport and Green modes

While it retains its bulldog stance, due to the additional creases, improved flow, flank design and wheel arch design, it looks significantly bigger. There is a new hexagonal front grille and it now features a more rakish windscreen, lowered rear bumper and new spoiler all of which seem to enhance the car’s sporty stance.

Cooper gets 1.5-litre 136bhp, 3-cylinder petrol, Cooper S a much sportier 2.0-litre 192bhp 4-cylinder motor while Cooper D uses a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel with 116bhp. The new automatic transmission combined with lower weight is said to increase the efficiency by 27 per cent while 0-100kmph times for the Cooper and Cooper S are 7.9 seconds and 6.8 seconds respectively

The fourth-generation (third since BMW acquired it) Mini Cooper is based on the new ULK1 platform. It is 98mm longer, 44mm wider, 7mm taller and has a 28mm longer wheelbase which translates into more rear seat space and 51-litre larger boot. A new range of 3-cylinder engines are on offer while suspension is MacPherson struts up front and new BMW Z-axle multi-link at the rear.

There is a new spring and damper setup with triple-path support bearings while Dynamic Damper Control is available for the first time
