Audi unveils new 3.0 TDI in Vienna
Audi introduced an updated 3.0-litre TDI engine at the ongoing 35th International Vienna Motor Symposium. The updated turbocharged V6 motor now comes in two states of tune, 218bhp and 272bhp. It features a 90-degree cylinder bank angle and a displacement of 2967cc. Audi claims the engine has the capacity to develop peak torque up to 600Nm depending on the model. The new motor is compliant to Euro 6 emission norms and the manufacturer claims 13 per cent more fuel efficiency.
The new 3.0-litre TDI uses optimized piston rings and pins for minimal friction. The updated thermal management system uses separate coolant loops for crankcase and newly designed cylinder heads help the engine deliver better fuel efficiency. Apart from these updates, the turbocharger and the fully variable-load oil pump have also been updated. The engine also boasts of NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) storage catalytic converter which has been combined with a diesel particulate filter and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) injection in a single assembly.
The 3.0-litre TDI engine is available as engine options with the A4, A6, A7, A8, S4, Q5 and Q7 sold in India. The updated engine is likely to feature in these models as and when the cars get upgraded.
