Featuring an array of subtle visual changes and new powertrains, Audi has taken the wraps off the new A6 which is all set to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. The new A6 sports the same design principles as those of the newly unveiled Audi TT, that features a single frame grille, and headlights with horizontal DRLs somewhat similar to those on the new XC90. The air inlets, bumpers, side sills, rear lights and tail pipes have been updated which adds up to a fresh new feel. As expected the Matrix LED headlight will make its way to the new Audi A6 as an extra. Though the changes are limited to the exterior and aren’t easy to recognize, it is commendable that Audi has managed to give the A6 good enough mid-life facelift to go up against the likes of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the updated BMW 5 Series.

On the inside, the front seats are available with optional ventilation and massage functions. Audi’s MMI Navigation Plus with MMI touch, comes with an eight‑inch monitor which has been updated with a new technology platform that uses the fast Tegra 30 graphics chip from Audi’s partner Nvidia.

The engine line-up for the new A6 and A6 Avant includes three TFSI units with outputs ranging from 188bhp to 329bhp, and five TDI units ranging from 148bhp to 322bhp. The current 2.0TFSI is more likely to give way to the 1.8TFSI which we saw in the recently launched A3 sedan. The 1.8 TFSI engine will develop 10bhp more (190bhp) in the A6. The popular 2.0 TDI will be available in two states of tune- the less powerful version will develop 147bhp while the higher version will develop 187bhp (up by 10bhp). The above engines will be mated to a reworked seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic gearbox, instead of the multitronic CVT transmission. The top-end diesel engine, the 3.0TDI is available in three states of tune- 215bhp, 268bhp and 315bhp. If you hunger for more power, there is a completion pack that churns out 322bhp. The high‑performance diesel motor is paired with an eight‑speed tiptronic transmission.

The new A6 will make to showrooms at the end of the year globally. The India arrival is also expected sometime early next year since the A6 is a very important model for Audi India. An early launch of the new A6 in India makes sense for the German manufacturer as segment rivals have seen updates quite recently.
