Bajaj Auto today pulled the wraps off the Pulsar RS 200 — its first fully faired production bike. Fourteen years since the launch of the original Pulsar, Bajaj has been pushing the envelope in terms of technology and design and the RS 200 is at the forefront of Bajaj’s R&D efforts.

The Pulsar RS 200 is Bajaj’s take on the sports segment. The design was first previewed at the 2014 Auto Expo in the guise of the Pulsar 400 SS. The RS 200 does not deviate much from that design featuring a sporty and muscular visage.

The front end gets twin projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The LED tech carries on to the rear as well in the form of crystal LED tail lamps and LED indicators. The sides are sharply sculpted and the short and stubby exhaust is well executed. The aggressive styling hides a comfortable yet sporty riding position.

The RS 200 gets fuel injection to its 4-valve triple spark cylinder head, that bumps up power from its 200cc liquid cooled single. Power is now 24bhp at 9750rpm and torque output stands at 18.6Nm at 8000rpm. That, along with a kerb weight of 186kg, affords it a claimed top speed of 141kmph.

To reign in the speed, the RS 200 is provided with a 300mm front petal disc and 230mm rear disc with the option of ABS.

Power is half the fun. The other half comes via handling, and Bajaj Auto has worked on the Pulsar RS 200 in this regard. Minor changes have been made in the perimeter frame geometry to make the RS 200 an agile handler. Wheelbase is now shorter at 1355mm compared to the 200 NS’s 1363mm. We suspect that the Pulsar RS might have a sharper steering rake compared to the 200 NS, but that can only be confirmed after a test ride.

Speaking on the launch, Eric Vas, President — Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd said, “There is a large number of consumers who expect true track performance from their bikes. The new Pulsar RS 200 now enters the Super Sports segment with aerodynamically tested fairings, superior chassis and engine technology to deliver adrenaline pumping performance be it on tracks or real roads.”

The Pulsar RS 200 retails at Rs. 118,500 for the non-ABS variant and Rs.130,268 for the ABS version (all-prices ex-showroom Maharashtra). The RS 200 will be available at select Bajaj dealerships starting today.
Stay tuned, for more Pulsar action is coming your way on the April 9th when we will be riding the new Pulsar at Bajaj’s Chakan test track.
