Now available with electric start to better take on rivals in the 100cc commuter segment, the new Bajaj Platina ES has been launched at Rs 45,431, ex-showroom Mumbai. Claimed to have the most fuel-efficient engine Bajaj has developed to date, the Platina ES is powered by a 102cc, four-stroke, single cylinder engine (equipped with dual spark plugs and twin valves), that produces 8.2bhp at 7500rpm and 8.6Nm of torque at 5000rpm. The motor is mated to a four-speed transmission, that shifts in an all-down pattern. The motorcycle weighs only 108kg, gets a 11.5-litre fuel tank, and a zero-maintenance battery. A claimed fuel efficiency of 96.9kmpl (ARAI certified) means the range will be a over 1000km!

To separate itself from its non-ES siblings, the new model comes with new body graphics and colour options (red, blue and black), extending to the grab handle. Blacked-out engine and alloys add a dash of sportiness. The Platina ES is equipped with 110mm drum brakes at the front and rear wheels. It seems that the telescopic front suspension and dual hydraulic rear shock absorbers have been carried over.
