Infotainment systems have come of age, with manufacturers offering integrated units which pair with android and iOS platforms allowing connectivity and access to your favorite songs. With such advancements in integrated systems, it was only a matter of time before aftermarket units offered the same technology.

Blaupunkt India has launched its first aftermarket android based infotainment system called the Cape Town 940. Priced at Rs 54,990, the double-din multimedia comes with internet connectivity via WiFi, smart phone integration for complete command and control of smartphones, android music player app, HDMI/MHL, independent rear seat entertainment zone, and Bluetooth Twin connect in order to connect 2 phones simultaneously.

At the helm is an android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system accessed through a large 6.8” capacitive touch screen display that can be customised as per your fancy. The heart is a MST786 dual core 1GHz Cortex 9 CPU with a 1GB DDR3 SDRAM. A Mirror Mode feature allows users to project the screen of their smartphones onto the radio display with complete control over both Apple and Android phones. This effectively allows the user to project the apps and functions of the phone on the centre console display.

Navigation comes via optional all India MAP on an SD card, allowing live traffic updates for select cities (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai), speed alerts, lane guidance, etc. The system does not skimp on sound either with a theatre like sound experience and Blaupunkts signature clarity that promises to deliver that complete and immersive experience.
