The Beijing Auto Show will see the unveiling of BMW’s new flagship model, the 9 Series Concept. German magazine Auto Motor und Sport has reported that the concept is already in the country ahead of the auto show set to take place on April 20. BMW has admittedly gone large with their biggest SUV, the new X7 based on the 7 Series and the 9 Series is proof that BMW is venturing into Bentley, Maybach and Rolls-Royce territory. We expect the production model to rival the Mercedes-Benz S600 Maybach and to sell alongside the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

The new 9 Series Concept will share its platform (code-named G11, a modular platform) with the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the recently launched 7 Series though it may have a longer wheelbase. The cabin will sport a “new cockpit philosophy” that we will see on the next-gen 7 Series. Design and styling, BMW has revealed, will be borrowed from BMW’s Gran Lusso Coupe concept which was showcased at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, in May last year. The showcased concept had rather sleek headlamps and tail lamps, accentuating the width and space of the car. The airdams in the front bumper get a premium looking chrome strip, the bonnet gets the usual BMW muscular creases and the kidney-grille is as prominent as always.

BMW has yet to announce when the 9 Series concept will reach production but we estimate that the uber-luxury car should reach showrooms by 2016.
