The fastest production sedan in the world at the time of its introduction, the BMW M5 has had tons of fans drooling over it in the past thirty years of its production. There was an ‘M’ model in every generation of the 5 Series including the E34, E39, E60/E61, and most recently, the F10. One of the stars of the performance-hungry M division, the M5 is celebrating 30 years of production and to mark the occasion, BMW has launched a special edition christened ’30 Jahre M5' (30 years of the M5).

Limited to just 300 units, the 30 Jahre M5’s 4.4-litre V8 engine will develop a meaty 592bhp and 700Nm of torque, which enthrones the M5 as the most powerful BMW M5 ever made and the most powerful car in the history of the M brand. A 40bhp power bump over the standard M5 pushes the ’30 Jahre M5' from 0–100kmph in just 3.9 seconds. The foundation for these upgrades was provided by the Competition Package, which comes standard in the special edition. The Competition Package comprises modifications including a revised chassis setup with firmer spring/damper tuning and a 10mm drop in ride height.

The limited edition boasts of BMW’s individual paint shade, Frozen Dark Silver metallic. Apart from the unique colour, the kidney grille surround, the ’30 Jahre M5' badge on the front wing, the door handle inserts and twin exhaust pipes, all come in black chrome which differentiates the special edition from the standard M5. The improvements to the interiors consist of ’30 Jahre M5' and series number inscriptions. This is integrated into the aluminium trim strip on the front passenger side of the cabin. Further, the door sills will feature ’30 Jahre M5' lettering and this will also be embroidered into the backrests of all four seats. Among the other equipment highlights of the special edition are high-end surround sound systems with a choice between a 600 watt Harman Kardon unit or a 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen system, complete with 16 speakers.
