If the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Maruti S-Cross or Hyundai Creta don’t catch your fancy, you may want to wait a while longer before you make a buying decision. Crowd favourite Honda has just shown the BR-V SUV/crossover at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Visually, it’s a mixed-bag of Honda elements. The front chrome grille is reminiscent of many current Honda models, including the City. Projector headlamps are seen on the image Honda has released, as well as chrome-ringed fog lamps. Inside, we will see an interior with shades of the local market City and Jazz, with dual-tone dash and capacitive controls. The BR-V will be a 7-seater.

Follow the shoulder line and you’ll see hints of the Mobilio MPV in the doors. Ground clearance looks good and the wheels are handsome, though we may get a different specification for India. For Indonesia, the SUV comes with a 1.5-litre iVTEC engine generating 120hp and 145Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. For India, we’re likely to see it sold with the 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel motor that’s used across the Honda India range. We hope Honda takes a leaf from the competition’s book and includes standard ABS and airbags, as specified on the Indonesian model.
