DC Avanti spied, year-end launch expected

India’s first proper production sportscar is almost ready for launch. Spied here on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, final prototypes have been spotted undergoing testing in NCR, Chennai, and Pune. The Avanti was first showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo and is a two-seater with a mid-mounted engine.

DC’s Avanti is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (borrowed from Renault) that churns out 240bhp at 5500rpm and 366Nm of peak torque at 3500rpm. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the 1562kg Avanti should be able to reach 100kmph in under 7 seconds.

Expected to hit showrooms by the end of this year, the DC Avanti is expected to cost around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
