Ducati India officially launched their operations in the country at their huge Gurgaon showroom, understood to be one of the largest in the world. Ducati’s showrooms in Mumbai and Gurgaon have been operational for some time now, and sales have also begun in earnest. The company also took the opportunity to announce the availability of two Scrambler variants — the Full Throttle and the Classic. But first, some background.

The Ducati Scrambler has polarised the motorcycling world with its aggressive marketing and “lifestyle” focus. The pandering to hipsters notwithstanding, it’s a solid, simple, fun bike. The Scrambler has always had four variants: the Icon base model, and three factory customs: the Classic, with a more cafe vibe, the Urban Enduro with a bit of an off-road pretense and the Full Throttle, apparently inspired by flat track racers. They all look awesome and each of the customs cost roughly a lac over the standard Icon model. With today’s announcement, India gets three of the four models of Scrambler available from Ducati, skipping the Urban Enduro. Apparently, the olive green colour of the Enduro was too close to that used by our armed forces, causing Ducati India some trouble in its import.

Pierfrancesco Scalzo, Ducati Asia’s General Manager — Sales and Marketing and Ravi Avalur, MD, Ducati India Pvt Ltd were at hand to launch the vehicles as well as lay out plans for future dealerships in India. Bangalore gets a Ducati shop in October and Pune and Hyderabad will follow suit, though a timeframe was not specified. At Thrill Of Driving, we’ve already taken delivery of a Hypermotard to add to our fleet. Watch out for a test of that soon.
