On one hand, you have SUVs which are rugged go-anywhere vehicles. On the other, there are sport cars which are made for handling and flat out speeds. Never the twain should meet, or should they ? Introducing the Range Rover Sport SVR one of the world’s fastest 4x4s. The supercharged 5.0-litre V8 transplanted from the Jaguar XKR-S and fettled by their SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) to produce a mind numbing 543bhp, which propels the car to an electrically limited 261kmph. In addition, there is 680Nm of torque that propels this behemoth from 0–100kmph in just 4.5 seconds.

SVO started out with a 5.0-litre V8 Range Rover Sport and performed a series of upgrades to ensure that the SVR is capable of breaking- well- everything short of physics. Output has been bumped up by 40bhp and 56Nm from the regular Range Rover Sport, and Land Rover has given the four-wheel drive chassis a thorough work-out to make sure it can keep up. So the ZF eight-speed automatic is recalibrated and new 22-inch alloys are fitted with 295/40 R22 Continental Sport tyres, which are available as an optional upgrade.

Land Rover has announced that bookings for the SVR have been opened, for a paltry fee of £93,450 (Rs 95.82 lakh) you could have a car — umm — SUV that is capable of doing a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 8 minutes 14 seconds. That’s Porsche 911 Carrera territory. The public debut of the fastest and most powerful Range Rover yet will take place at Pebble Beach this weekend.
