Fiat 500X crossover image leaked

Compact crossovers are taking over the world. In India, we have the Toyota Etios Cross, VW Cross Polo, and the soon-to-be-launched Fiat Avventura, which are based on small hatchbacks. We are yet to see any larger crossovers, besides Skoda’s Yeti in the country though internationally, there are a whole range of largish half-hatch-half-SUVs to choose from. One of these, is the soon to be unveiled Fiat 500X, set to debut at the 2014 Paris Motor show this October.

Spied here, the 2015 Fiat 500X looks almost exactly like the model Fiat had showcased two years ago in Turin (besides new all0ys), at the launch of the 500L. As crossovers go, the usual beefy, SUV-like styling (roof rails, bulkier bumpers, higher ground clearance) have been incorporated along with classic and cutesy Fiat 500 design. The 500X will share its underpinnings with sister company’s Jeep Renegade using the ‘Small Wide’ platform found in the 500L.

Fiat hasn’t discloses mechanical details but we expect both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations powered by various MultiAir turbo-petrol engines and MultiJet diesel motors. Expected transmission options include a six-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic.
