Ford has launched the next-generation Ka hatchback in Brazil which is essentially supposed to be the Figo’s replacement in the Indian market. The Ka hatchback is available in SE and SEL variants in Brazil and have been priced at Brazilian Real 35,390 (approximately Rs 9.52 lakh) and BRL 39,990 (approximately Rs 10.76) respectively. The new Ka which is expected to come to India in early 2015 as the refreshed Figo, will also have a sub four-metre sibling in India which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo as the Figo sedan concept. The Ka has done very well over the years in European markets confirming the car’s calibre.

The Figo replacement has gone under the knife and now looks more matured and evolved. The swept back headlamps looks similar to those on the soon-to be launched Fiat Punto Evo. The Ka sports Ford’s current design language which is quite evident in the trapezoidal grille. The vertical-styled tail-lamps have been traded for more compact ones.

The interior has also seen updates similar to that of the Ford Fiesta. The higher variants of the Ka/Figo will feature alloy wheels, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows, power steering and Ford’s SYNC system for mobile connectivity which debuted in India with the EcoSport.

Ford Brazil has launched the Ka with just one engine. A new 1.0-litre TiVCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) naturally aspirated petrol engine which develops 85bhp at 6500rpm and 105Nm of max torque at 4500rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Ford India will launch a diesel variant and is likely to employ the 1.5-litre TDCI from the EcoSport.

The new Figo will be the first model to make its way from Ford’s upcoming facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Though it is early to comment on the price, we expect it to be priced between Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 7.0 lakh for the hatchback variant and between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh for the sub-four metre compact sedan model.
