Harley issues recall of 1,26,000 touring bikes
Harley-Davidson has annouced a recall of over 1,26,000 touring motorcycles from its stables citing an issue with the clutch which could result in an accident. The recall applies to all touring bikes made in the year 2014, including the three-wheeled trikes and custom designed bikes. The iconic motorcycle maker has connected 19 accidents though no serious injuries to the issue, while several of the accidents occurred during the company’s safety testing.
A spokesperson for Harley-Davidson said that the hydraulic clutch may not disengage and the bike could crash, likely by tipping over. The same issue was also the cause of a recall of 2014 touring bikes which occoured in October, 2013. The fix involves rebuilding the master clutch cylinder and takes just about an hour.
The Milwaukee-based company also is recalling 1384 motorcycles made earlier this year, to test for possible fuel tank leaks. The motorcycles are from Harley’s street bike range and include the 2015 Harley-Davidson XG500, and the XG750. To address the problem, the manufacturer has promised that dealers would inspect the tank, determine if it is faulty, and, if necessary, order a replacement tank.
