Hero’s really gunning to capture sales in every segment it can enter, and this one is meant to face-off against Suzuki’s Gixxer. This is the new Hero Xtreme Sports and is available in two variants- one with a disc brake up front, and the other with the discs at the front and rear. Priced at Rs 67,000 (for the single disc trim) and Rs 70,000 (for the higher spec one), the bike was first displayed just before the 2014 Auto Expo.

The Sports looks different even compared to the revamped Xtreme, and as such, comes with twin LED pilot lamps, an edgier headlamp, a new tail-lamps, new tank, exhaust, dials, and seats (split units). The indicators look like Hero was scrounging in the Karizma parts bin.

The Honda borrowed 149.2cc single still powers the Xtreme Sports, though tuned to deliver 14.98bhp and 12.8Nm of peak torque, an increase of 1bhp over the standard Xtreme. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission.

The motorcycle is available in Black, Digital Silver Metallic, Sports Red, Black-Sports Red and Abraxas Inferno Orange colours.

Besides the Gixxer, the Xtreme Sports will compete against the Honda Unicorn 160, Bajaj Pulsar 150, Yamaha FZ / FZ-S version 2.0, and TVS Apache RTR.
