Honda Cars India has announced the recall of 1,085 units of the Accord, 252 units of the CR-V manufactured in 2003 and one CR-V made in 2002. The issue that Honda is looking to rectify is the preventive replacement of the passenger-side airbag inflator and is a part of Honda’s global recall announced in June 2014.

While no incident regarding the part in question has arisen, the replacement will be carried out gratis at dealerships across India in a phased manner. While Honda will contact owners directly, they can also confirm if the car they own is a part of the recall or not by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Honda’s website, www.hondacarindia.com.

The problem with the airbag inflator has been identified as a problem during the propellant forming process. The casing of the inflator may get damaged when the airbag deploys potentially causing injury to vehicle occupants.
