Remember those cool retro bikes that Husqvarna had showcased at EICMA in November 2014? Two of those drool-worthy concepts, both based on the 401, have been confirmed for production by the Swedish bike maker’s Managing Director, Reinhold Zens.

The 401 Vitpilen (white arrow) and the 401 Svartpilen (black arrow) will be the basis for new models coming from the Husky stables in 2017. The Swedish manufacturer is owned by KTM since 2013, and will follow a parts sharing system, where the frame and engine for the production-spec 401s will be borrowed from the KTM RC390 and Duke 390. Expect the engine output for the bikes to be the same 43bhp and 35Nm as those on the KTMs’ 375cc single cylinder mill.

The 401 “white arrow” will be the new cafe racer in the Husqvarna range, while the 401 “black arrow” portrays a typical scrambler like image, down to the large lumpy tyres.

In conversation with Swedish magazine Bike, Zens said, “I can tell you that they will come as 2017 models. They may not look the same, a concept is after all a designer’s dream while a finished model must follow rules and regulation, but they will definitely have the same style.”
