South Korean auto giant, Hyundai is known for their feature rich, fuel efficient, and practical family cars in India. The second largest manufacturer in the country is generally not considered as a manufacturer looking in to high performance cars. However globally, Hyundai has a different story to tell. The manufacturer employs a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 that develops 423bhp in their performance cars, the Equus and the Genesis. Hyundai also runs a factory WRC team in the ongoing World Rally Championship. If you think this isn’t enough to make Hyundai into a performance manufacturer, they are out to prove you wrong at the SEMA show to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nevada from November 4–7, 2014.

What you will see at the auto show, is the most-powerful Sonata ever produced, churning out 708 horsepower, thanks to the tuning firm, Bisimoto Engineering, who have partnered with Hyundai. The extensive engine mods on Hyundai’s 2.4-litre ‘Theta-II’ 4-cylinder engine such as forged pistons, connecting rods, a high-revving valve train and camshafts, a high-boost turbocharger, and a fast-burning, flex-fuel diet, now extracts the most out of the engine. With these figures, the Sonata enters super car territory. To put it into perspective, a Lamborghini Aventador’s 6.5-litre V12 engine develops 691bhp.

What is under the hood is also complemented by Bisimoto wrapping its 2015 Sonata in a custom laminated body wrap and graphics. A Bisimoto front splitter and aero package, 18-inch aluminium wheels, and Burns stainless exhaust system are also a part of the package. The interior has been spruced up with AEM wideband gauges and EK Autoworx interior paint.

“Outrageous power is nothing without reliability, and it was a firm goal to retain the reliability that Hyundai is known for. After hundreds of hours of testing, failure analysis and prototyping, 18 new products will be engineered and produced in-house to produce 708 horsepower from the Sonata.” said Bisi Ezerioha, owner and chief engineer of Bisimoto Engineering. It is the third time Hyundai has joined hands with Bisimoto Engineering to bring out powerful Hyundai cars to showcase at motor shows. It started in 2012 with a 600-horsepower Elantra GT, after which, they elevated their power target to with a 1000-horsepower with the Genesis Coupe last year.

Hyundai has only released a rear picture of the Sonata for now. The vehicle will be debut at Hyundai’s SEMA press conference on November 4 at 9.00 am. Scroll down to see the list of extensive mods that changed the normal Sonata to a mad one.
