Indian Motorcycle to add new motorcycle in 2015 line-up
American motorcycle manufacturer Indian is adding a fourth motorcycle to its motorcycle line-up. Christened as the Indian Roadmaster, the bike will give the Indian Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and Chieftain company in the manufacturer’s stables, though we are yet to hear whether or not it will be launched in India anytime soon.
The Roadmaster will be equipped with the same 1811cc, air-cooled V-twin engine that Polaris calls Thunder Stroke 111. The engine develops 161Nm of torque (the same engine develops 139Nm in India), while as is the norm for most cruiser makers, Indian does not reveal the power output for the engine. Industry reports though suggest that the Thunder Stroke 111 produces about 92bhp. The Indian Roadmaster offers remote locking storage, LED lights, keyless ignition and leather seats as standard, and will be in Desert Tan shade. The touring bike boasts of a weatherproof storage luggage rack with a capacity of over 140 litres. The heated handlebar grips can store upto 10 different settings, while the rider and passenger seats also get heating, with individual controls. The windshield and floorboards are adjustable to enhance the motorcycle’s touring virtues, thus making it suitable to riders of varying heights. As is the case with most motorcycles in the segment, the Roadmaster also allows you to customise the motorcycle to suit your tastes with a parts list that is virtually never ending.
The Roadmaster name is not all new for the American bike maker, as the name was first seen on Indian’s classic cruiser manufactured during 1947–1953. The new Roadmaster is expected to hit dealerships across North America in September, and will be positioned as the flagship model. The 2015 Indian Roadmaster has been priced at $29,999 (approximately Rs 18 lakh) in the USA, which is a $4400 (approximately Rs 2.64 lakh) premium over the current flagship, the Chieftain.
We would like to assume the bike will hit our shores by the end of the year, and expect it to bear a price tag of about Rs 35 lakh ex-showroom.
