After dillydallying for long, Jaguar has made it clear the C-X17 concept crossover will make it to production. The all-new model in Jaguar’s line-up is slated to launch in 2016 and will have the F-Pace moniker. The first letter of the name is taken from the F-type, which the new crossover is inspired from, according to Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar. No word on why the ‘Pace’ suffix was chosen as yet, though we think it is taken from the manufacturer’s famous ‘Grace, Pace, Space’ slogan from the 1950s and 1960s.

The five-seater crossover (SUVs being the Land Rover brand’s forte) is meant to have, as Jaguar puts it, all the attributes of a practical sports car. Jaguar confirms the F-Pace will be endowed with a beautiful design, precise handling, supple ride, luxurious interiors, and the latest technology. The British manufacturer, who is celebrating its 80th year, has decided this is the time to foray into this new segment by advertising the F-Pace as a family sports car.

The Jaguar F-Pace will use the same new aluminum architecture which also underpins the new XE sports sedan. A range petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines from the soon-to-be-launched Ingenium family, will also make it to the crossover. Additionally, a 3.0-litre supercharged petrol V6 with 335bhp from the F-type coupe may join the range. The possibility of a higher powered ‘R’ variant cannot be ruled out since the car is to be pit against the Porsche Macan. The F-Pace will be manufactured in Jaguars’s Solihull plant in UK. The teaser video makes sure we come back for more. Stay tuned.
