Another one of Jaguar Land Rover’s cars will be locally assembled at the British manufacturer’s Pune facility, the Range Rover Evoque. The fourth vehicle (after the Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ) to be assembled at the plant, its price has come down by over Rs 10 lakh, with a starting tag of Rs 48.73 lakh ex-showroom Mumbai. Since its inauguration in 2011, the assembly plant’s production has tripled and fits into JLR’s global plan to expand its manyfacturering network outside the UK. With 22 outlets in 20 cities, JLR’s presence in the country has increased by a significant margin since its arrival in India in 2009.

The Range Rover Evoque is a well selling SUV in the British car maker’s portfolio and comes in three variants; Pure (priced at Rs 48.73 lakh), Dynamic (costing Rs 52.40 lakh), and Prestige (at Rs 56.21 lakh). All three get the same 2.2-litre four-pot SD4 diesel motor that makes 187bhp at 3500rpm and 420Nm of peak torque at 2000rpm, sending power to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. All variants come with standard equipment like front and rear parking sensors with a rear view camera, navigation, panoramic sunroof, and Land Rover’s state of the art Terrain Response System. The locally-manufactured Range Rover Evoque is now available for sale with deliveries expected to begin from early April 2015.

Rohit Suri, President of Jaguar Land Rover India, said, “We believe that India is a market that offers significant opportunities for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. I am pleased to announce the broadening of our locally manufactured portfolio, with the introduction of the Range Rover Evoque. It is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at INR 48.73 Lacs, Ex-Showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi). This will enable us to access a wider audience which consists of discerning and premium Indian customers who have always loved the brand, aspired to own this SUV and be seen in it. Our investment in the Pune facility demonstrates our continued long-term commitment to the Indian market.”
