Ever since the acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) from Ford in 2008, sales results of both British brands have made parent Tata Motors proud. JLR, which recorded heavy losses in the first year under Tata, made a complete 180-degree during the coming year resulting in enormous profits for the Indian giant. Though Tata had a tough time in the domestic market during last couple of years, JLR had good results in the domestic and international market. Their Indian operations started in 2009 and to mark the milestone of five successful years, the manufacturer today announced an exclusive Freelander 2 Sterling Edition at a price of Rs 44.41 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai, Pre Octroi). The new Freelander 2 Sterling Edition will be available only in limited numbers.

The Sterling Edition features a sporty exterior kit that includes blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels which JLR calls ‘anthracite finish’. The alloys look like slightly tweaked and blacked-out versions of the alloys that come with Tata Aria. The grille, fender vents, and tailgate spoiler get the same dark treatment. The Sterling Edition also sports lower cladding on the front and rear bumpers, and on the sides with a bright finish.

The 2.2-litre TD4 diesel motor remains untouched with 148bhp of power and 420Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Speaking on the launch, Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India, said “We are excited to introduce the new Freelander 2 Sterling Edition. It will further endear the hugely popular model to our young and sophisticated customers looking to own an exclusive Land Rover with enhanced sporty looks.”
