Replacing the beloved and best-selling Gallardo prbably wasn’t the easiest thing for Lamborghini but they manaqged to do it with the Huracán. Even in racing trim, the Italian manufacturer has replaced the Gallardo in the Blancpain Super Trofeo series with the Huracán 620–2 Super Trofeo. Unveiled for the first time at ‘The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering’ in California, the track-spec supercar will debut in all three (Europe, Asia and North America) of the brand’s one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

While it retains the same 5.2-litre V10 engine as the stock Huracán, power has been increased by 10bhp to 612bhp, delivered to the rear wheels to accelerate the series racers’ transition into GT racing. The hybrid carbon fibre/aluminum chassis and weight saving measures have brought the weight down to just 1270kg (a 152kg difference from the stock Huracán). With a power-to-weight ratio of 481.89bhp/ton, 0–100kmph in under 3 seonds is a certainty.

‘‘The Huracán Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept,’’ said Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member and Director of Research and Development for Automobili Lamborghini. The redesigned supercar was developed with crucial inputs from Dallara Engineering and founder Giampaolo Dallara. The aerodynamics package improves efficiency, traction and downforce by using a ten-position rear wing, front and rear diffusers, as well as adjustable front air intakes. The Huracán Super Trofeo will be exclusively-equipped with Pirelli tyres engineered specifically for this application.
