Listen to a 362bhp V8 Subaru BRZ roaring
A BRZ with more power? Yes, please. Known to be able to handle a lot more power than its 2.0-litre ‘Boxer’ engine can manage (about 200bhp and 205Nm), the Subaru BRZ’s (and its Toyota equivalent, the 86) modding potential has been the subject of plenty of discussions. Jun Auto Mechanic, a Japanese tuner, has done precisely this, by transplanted the flat-four motor with a 2.4-litre V8 engine. Developed by Synergy, the engine kit is basically two Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R motors (1199cc, in-line, four-pot). Though the Synergy has made the crankcase and crankshaft specially for the new mashed V8 engine, the ZX-12R’s headers and the cylinder block have been used.
While dyno testing the Jun-modded BRZ, they found that the engine will rev all the way up to 11,000rpm, develop its peak horsepower of 362bhp at 10,000rpm, and at that same mark on the tacho, produce about 270Nm of torque. Oh, and it sounds orgasmic. Think old F1 V8 mixed with a little bit of bass. Mmmm … yes, that V8 sound. Substitute it for a cup of coffee in the morning and you’re still good to go.
As seen in the video, the has been the Jun-tuned BRZ has been set-up to race at the Fuji Speedway, and is only meant for track days (remeber, bike engines bring all the shove at a much higher rpm).
