Mahindra Mojo finally has a price
Good things take time. By that ken, the Mahindra Mojo, announced today at a very attractive Rs 1,58,000 ex-Delhi, must be incredible. We haven’t ridden one yet, but those who have (which includes the entire special interest publication industry, sundry tea stall owners and associated parties) indicate that it is indeed a good, honest motorcycle.
The Mojo is an awkward-looking motorcycle. The sort that should have had a number of its more outre elements ironed out between concept and production, but somehow escaped relatively unscathed. It’s not standard, sport-naked, sport, cruiser or commuter. It’s a bit of everything, and in the roulette game of “where should we slot it?”, Mahindra Two Wheelers decided on “tourer”. By all indications, the bike does just fine as a mile muncher. Our colleagues report that the suspension is pliant, the engine unstressed and the riding position neutral and comfortable. All excellent characteristics for a touring motorcycle. There are the all-important twin exhaust pipes for the single-cylinder 300cc motor and an aggressive-looking front fascia. The 165kg bike is also large, which is not so bad for the intended market.
Generating 27PS and 30Nm of torque, the engine is said to be able to hold triple-digit speeds all day without breaking a sweat, and Mahindra 2 Wheelers have pulled a particularly classy move by providing Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres on the bike. They won’t last a very long tour, but they’ll make the trip lots of fun. ABS is currently lacking, but Mahindra 2 Wheelers is working on it. The Rs 1,58,000 price is introductory for bookings until Diwali, so if the rowdy KTMs are a bit too tiny and frantic for your tastes, get in line quickly.
