Maruti Suzuki has announced a recall of 33,098 vehicles manufacturered between December 8, 2014 and February 18, 2015, 19,780 units of the Alto 800 and 13,318 units of the Alto K10, in order to replace the right hand door latch assembly. The issue was identified during internal quality checks performed by the Japanese manufacturer, prompting the recall. Though Maruti Suzuki claims the door could open at any time if pressure is applied from the inside, they also say that it is a rare problem.

However, the company has deemed a recall necessary in a bid to uphold Maruti’s customer satisfaction record. The Japanese car makers’ dealerships will contact owners of all the affected vehicles and will carry out the replacement, free of cost. Customers will also be able to check the Maruti Suzuki website, by filling in the 14-digit chassis number of their car, to see if their vehicle comes under the recall.
