Mercedes-Benz India, after launching the GL-Class last year has now launched the GL 63 AMG, India’s most powerful SUV in India at Rs 1.66 crore ex-showroom Mumbai.

GL 63 AMG

AMG endows Mercedes cars with super performance. The GL with its mammoth 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 engine develops 550bhp at 5250rpm and a torrential 760Nm of torque of between 2000 and 5000rpm which propel this behemoth to the ton in 4.9 seconds, going all the way up to its 250kmph limited top speed. AMG models are usually named after the engine but the GL makes do with the 5.5-litre instead of the 6.3-litre twin-turbo. Power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission while air suspensions, adaptive dampers, active roll stabilisation and automatic level control keep dynamics in check. It also gets Mercedes’ permanent all-wheel-drive system, and 4MATIC distributes power to the front and rear axles at a 40:60 ratio.

The GL 63 AMG is a spruced up GL-Class with typical AMG styling. Large front air dams dominate the front bumper along with the three-pointed-star at the centre of the honeycomb grille finished in glossy black. The rear bumper gets similar styling with quad rectangular tipped exhausts. Five-spoke AMG 21-inch alloy wheels are shod with wide 295/40-section tyres. Interiors feature AMG sport seats wrapped in leather, sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel and ambient lighting in three colour options. Thwere are AMG emblems around the cabin while optional wooden trims add a touch of class. Two 20.3-inch touchscreens are mounted on the headrests behind the driver and passenger seats and the GL also gets a Harman Kardon surround system complete with 14 speakers, two wireless headphones and remote control. A stand out safety feature is the Night View Assist Plus which uses infrared cameras and headlamps to project a clear black and white image on to the COMAND system display. This is a at night on unlit highways and roads.

Mercedes-Benz India have also launched a four-year extended warranty called the Star Care Plus Programme for AMG vehicles in India.
