Mercedes-Benz launches ML 63 AMG at Rs 1.49 crore
Continuing the onslaught of new releases by the three-pointed star, Mercedes-Benz has launched another power-mad SUV in the Indian market, the ML 63 AMG, priced at Rs 1.49 crore. The larger, recently-launched GL 63 AMG is almost Rs 20 lakh more expensive, but the ML comes with the added advantage of being lighter. The German manufacturer offers an AMG extended warranty for a Rs 1.5 lakh premium.
The ML 63 AMG shares the massive 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 motor with the GL 63 AMG that develops 525bhp and 700Nm of peak torque. AMG offers a “Performance Package” that bumps the engine output to 557bhp and 760Nm of torque, capable of moving this SUV to 100kmph in 4.7 seconds, 0.1 seconds quicker than the standard ML 63 AMG. The engine is mated to AMG’s Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic auto transmission which helps deliver fuel economy figures of 8.47kmpl for either model. Both models have an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
The ML gets the same bells and whistles as its larger sibling, the GL 63 AMG including AMG Ride Control with Active Curve System, three different driving modes, Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Sport Plus, 4Matic all-time all wheel drive system, et al. The generous equipment continues inside the ML 63 AMG and the feature list is as extensive.
This is the 6th AMG model to be launched in India, which now consists of the C 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, G 63 AMG, GL 63 AMG and SLS AMG. The CLA 45 AMG compact sedan and the GLA 45 AMG compact SUV are also expected in the country soon, which shows the German manufacturers’ commitment to the Indian market.
Eberhard Kern, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India was on hand at the launch of the new ML 63 AMG and the opening of the AMG Performance Centre in Delhi. The AMG Performance Centre is meant to get performance enthusiasts excited about the brand and to bring about closer relationships between customers and AMG. The Centre will cater specifically to AMG customers with a dedicated sales and service staff.
