In a move to cater to the super luxury sedan segment, usually the domain of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, Daimler has announced the revival of the Maybach brand. The first product from Mercedes-Maybach will be the S 600 which is going to be premiered this month at the Guangzhou Motor Show and the Los Angeles Auto Show. As the name suggests, the S 600 Limousine will be the top-spec ultra luxury S-Class featuring an extended wheel base and much more luxury to compete with its British rivals.

The two teaser images released by Daimler clearly suggest that the Maybach monicker will be seen at the trunk. The image of the rear part of the interior, points to the fact that that the vehicle will be an extended wheelbase version. Codenamed X 222, the S 600 name implies that the vehicle is likely to use a V12 6.0-litre twin-turbo engine.

The super-luxury Maybach brand came under the Daimler umbrella before production stopped in 2012 due to poor sales. Marketed as a sub-brand of Daimler at that time, the owners of these luxury chariots include Russia’s Roman Abramovich, musician Jay-Z, and King Juan Carlos of Spain. The new venture plans to sell well in China, the United States, Russia and Japan, says Ola Kaellenius, the Mercedes-Benz executive responsible for marketing and sales.
