As per our earlier reports, Mercedes-Benz India has launched the diesel version of its flagship saloon, the S 350 CDI for Rs 1.07 crore ex-showroom Delhi, today. The S 350 CDI will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine developing 255bhp and 620Nm of torque and is mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. The diesel motor’s output may not match the S 500′s V8 mill though it still manages an impressive 0–100kmph time of 6.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

Even though the S-Class was originally brought to India as CBUs, Mercedes-Benz will now assemble both, the body and the engine, of both S-Class variants at its Chakan facility. The local assembly of the luxury saloon has been key in bringing the price down to the one crore region. The diesel S-Class will come with as many bells-and-whistles as the S 500 albeit missing out on some ancillary features.

Showrooms across the country have already commenced bookings of the S 350 CDI for a token price of Rs 5 lakh and deliveries are expected from July onwards. The S 350 CDI will compete against the Audi A8L 3.0 TDI, BMW’s 730Ld and the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 once launched.
