ThrillOfDriving.com had reported earlier that Jaguar will launch its premium compact sedan, the XE on September 8 and will reveal further details in the run up to the official launch. On July 15, the British manufacturer had revealed details regarding the suspension (ride and handling) and some tit-bits about the chassis which will enable the XE to take on rivals like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and Volvo’s S60.

This week, the famed marque has disclosed more details about the XE, this time explaining in-depth, the technology utilised in the chassis. From their earlier reveal, we know that the Jaguar XE sports a light-weight aluminium chassis and now the manufacturer has confirmed that 75 per cent of the structure will be made with a new aluminium alloy, ‘RC5754’, that is made using recycled aluminium to dramatically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Combined with the expected 2.0-litre Ingenium engine, Jaguar claims an exceptional fuel efficiency 0f over 25kmpl and less than 100g/km of CO2 emissions on the NEDC (European driving cycle) combined cycle. The British marque aims to use 75 per cent recycled aluminium in its future models by 2020.

There are also reports that the new 2.0-litre Ingenium engine has 17 per cent less internal friction than today’s 2.2-litre diesel thanks to low-friction surfacing on the crankshaft, will use both single and double turbocharging though the most powerful egnine to be used will be 80kg lighter than the current V6. Also, as each cylinder will be exactly 500cc, all the four-cylinder engines will be 2.0-litres while a three-pot 1.5-litre and straight-six 3.0-litre may also be offered.

Stay tuned for more on the XE as Jaguar will periodically release more information before its debut.
