After recently announcing the prices and starting bookings, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Pvt. Ltd has officially launched the Activa 125, a more powerful version of its most popular two-wheeler. This is Honda’s first foray into the 125cc automatic scooter market and it is banking on its tried-and-tested Activa to lead the way. The larger engine will attract buyers who are looking for a more powerful but reliable automatic scooter and draw customers away from the likes of Suzuki’s Swish 125, Access 125 and the slightly more expensive Vespa LX.

The differences between the Activa and the new Activa 125 go beyond the engine. The seat has been widened for added comfort and the scooter is longer and taller (by 53mm and 4mm respectively) yet 6mm thinner than its 110cc sibling.

As we had reported earlier, the Honda Activa was recently crowned the largest selling two-wheeler in the country and the introduction of the Activa 125 is likely to give sales numbers a leg-up. Mileage-conscious buyers won’t be disappointed either, as the four-stroke, air-cooled, 124.9cc engine that develops 8.6bhp at 6500rpm and 10.12Nm at 5500rpm delivers a claimed fuel economy of 59kmpl. Honda’s patented HET tech is claimed to reduce friction and improve combustion, helping to achieve this fuel economy figure.

Honda has priced the Activa 125 Standard at Rs 56,607 while the Deluxe is priced at Rs 62,588 ex-showroom Mumbai. While prices and specs are on-par with the competition, Honda’s brand name and goodwill in this segment should help sales.
