New Merc C200 launched at Rs 40.9 lakh
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new C-Class at Rs. 40.9 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Available in just the C200 petrol trim for now, the baby S-Class will be sold via the CBU route. Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed the launch of the diesel variant in March 2015. Originally slated to launch next year, the manufacturer was forced to advance the launch thanks to stocks of the current C-Class selling out three months ahead of schedule. The new W205 generation C-Class had made its debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
The new generation C-Class is based on the German’s new lightweight modular rear-drive MRA (Mercedes Rear-drive Architecture) platform. With the plenty of use of aluminum, this new C-Class is 100kg lighter than the older model. Visually similar to the S-Class, the W205 is 4686mm long (up by 95mm), 1810mm wide (up by 40mm), and is 1442mm high (5mm shorter).
The front fascia is dominated by the S-Class inspired LED headlamps, two slat grille, the aggressive bumper, and the swooping lines that run along the sides of the car. The tail lamps, rear bumper, boot lid and rear bumper are an imitation of the S-Class. The interior has also been spruced up and now boasts of13-speaker Burmester audio system, keyless go, ambient lighting in three colours, three-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The Garmin map pilot provided, has the 2.1 million km and 7000 Indian cities worth of data.
The C200 is powered by a turbocharged 1991cc in-line four-cylinder engine that produces 181bhp of power and 300Nm of torque, mated to the 7G-TRONIC PLUS gearbox. Power is sent to the rear wheels, and Mercedes-Benz claims the car can run from 0–100kmph in 7.3 seconds. The C200 also comes with Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual driving modes to choose from depending on one’s personal driving style. The 2.0-litre engine also returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.74kmpl. The C200 will be available in five shades- blue, brown, silver, white and black.
