New VW Jetta facelift launched at Rs 13.87 lakh
The last updated model of the Volkswagen Jetta to be built on the older Mk6 Golf platform (P35) has launched today, with prices starting at Rs 13.87 lakh ex-showroom, Mumbai. That’s the price for the 1.4 TSI, while the 2.0 TDI has a price tag starting at Rs 15.01 lakh. October 2013 did see a small facelift for the VW Jetta launch with some more goodies, making this update purely cosmetic. As Ouseph has said in his review, this will be the last over-engineered Jetta and the next generation be built on the lighter, safer, and stronger MQB platform.
On the outside, besides the new headlamps, the grille with three chrome bars (differenciating it from the smaller Vento which only gets two), the new bumper, and the new Audi-esque tail lamps, it’s no different. There is a new colour on offer with this faceluft though, called Blue Silk.

The cabin doesn’t see that many changes either, though there is the new flat bottomed steering wheel with paddleshifts (on the DSG automatic cars), enclosed dials for the speedo and tacho, a touch screen, eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, powered driver’s seat controls, dual zone climate control, six airbags, ESP and bi-xenon headlamps. The executive sedan also gets cruise control with a ‘fatigue detection’ feature that studies driving inputs, and flashes a warning if your driving style varies too much. However, the Jetta misses out on a reverse camera and a sunroof, equipment that most rivals have.
The engine options are the same as those on the pre-facelift model, the petrol engine is the in-line, four-pot 1.4-litre turbo, that produces 120bhp and 200Nm of peak torque, and comes mated to a six-speed manual. With the 2.0-litre diesel engine, there are two transmission options, the six-speed manual, and the six-speed DSG dual clutch automatic.
At this price point, the Jetta’s rivals like the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai’s Elantra, and the Toyota Corolla Altis do seem like a better proposition, especially in terms of equipment, but this Jetta facelift makes a case for itself thanks to the tank-like, over-engineered build quality.
