New VW Vento launched at Rs 7.44 lakh

Ever since we heard that the Skoda Rapid was going to be offered with VW’s new 103 bhp 1.5-litre TDI engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission, we knew that its badge re-engineered sbling, the Ventio would also receive this set up. Today, Volkswagen India has launched this newest version of the Vento with prices for the top-spec 1.5 TDI DSG starting at Rs 10.49 lakh and going up to Rs 10.94 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new diesel engine develops the same 103bhp and 250Nm of torque as the 1.6-litre TDI motor it replaces but with a DSG ‘box, VW claims it will deliver 21.21kmpl.

The Vento retains the earlier 1.6-litre petrol motor mated to a five-speed manual, and the 1.2-litre TSI turbo petrol engine paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission. The 1.6 MPI is priced from Rs Rs 7.44 lakh — Rs 8.87 lakh, while the 1.2 TSI DSG costs between Rs 9.35 lakh and Rs 9.92 lakh. The new 1.5 TDI also comes with a manual option that is priced between Rs 8.57 lakh and Rs 9.90 lakh.

Besides the big change in the mechanical department, the new Vento gets dual front airbags, dual-beam headlamps, a new instrument panel, new alloys, ambeint lighting in the footwells, and the chunky, sporty flat-bottom steering wheel.

We’ll have to wait till tomorrow for the Skoda Rapid 1.5 TDI DSG’s pricing and hope that it will not cannibalise the VW Vento’s sales.
