Polaris launches Indian Motorcycles in India
More and more big-league bike manufacturers have graced Indian shores in the past year and 2014 promises to keep this ball rolling with Polaris’ launch of the iconic American brand, Indian Motorcycles. Indian Motorcycle’s chief rival in India is Harley-Davidson’s line-up which until now were the only choice in the heavyweight cruiser category. This move by Polrais marks its first foray into the motorcycle market as they were previously engaged ATVs and off-road vehicles.
The iconic American motorbike manufacturer started production of its motorcycles way back in 1901 though fell into financial problems by 1953. It was subsequently bought by Polaris who spent Rs 627 crore in research and development to bring the newest Indian bikes to the annual motorcycle parade in Sturgis earlier this year.
In addition to introducing its complete line-up including the Chief Classic, the Chief Vintage and the Chieftain, Polaris has also announced the launch of the Thunder Stroke 111. Indian Motorcycles claims that the Thunder Stroke 111 is the world’s largest capacity, most powerful production engine available today as its 1,811cc 49-degree V-twin produces 139Nm of peak torque at a low 2600rpm.
Pricing begins at Rs 26.5 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi for the base Chief Classic. The Indian Chief Vintage is priced at Rs 29.5 lakh and the range topping Chieftain comes in at an astounding Rs 33 lakh!
