Range Rover long wheelbase version launched at the 2014 Auto Expo

It wasn’t surprising to see that the Range Rover long wheelbase got more attention that the actress Priyanka Chopra who was at the show to unveil Land Rover’s newest offering. The flagship SUV of the British marquee has launched its extended wheelbase version which is expected to get more buyers India who increasingly demand premium luxury and space. The first long wheelbase version in their 20 year history, the new Rangie is positioned as an alternative to traditional long wheelbase saloon cars like the S-Class or even the Jaguar XJ.

The wheelbase has been increased by 186mm, which translates into more leg room for the second row passengers. Thanks to the rear seats which recline 17 inches compared to the 8 inches of the standard version, back seat passengers will be thoroughly pampered. The ‘L’ badge is placed discreetly behind the front wheel arches and differentiates the LWB version — as does the massive size of course. However Range Rover always planned to have an LWB variant and thus the styling is cohesive and proportionate.

The powertrains will remain the same as the regular Range Rover with the petrol option being a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine developing 503bhp. The diesel options will be a 4.4-litre V8 producing 334bhp and 3.0-litre V6 generating 245bhp. All engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
