Mechanically the SUV remains unchanged, though there are rumours that Renault will introduce the facelifted Duster with the 1.2-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine that is employed abroad, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This would be an excellent strategy to peg the new Duster directly against Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. There are also rumours that Renault will equip the compact SUV with a 4x4 all-wheel drive system.

While new powertrain options would indeed be a pleasant surprise, the Duster will share the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine with the rest of the Renault family and a 1.6-litre petrol engine as well. Both these engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Externally it features a simpler dual-slat chrome grille and new double-optic headlights with integrated DRLs from the Dacia version, beefier roof rails, and new ‘Dark Metal’ 16-inch alloys shod with ‘Mud and Snow’ tyres. Changes at the rear include slightly angular tail lamps and a chrome-tipped exhaust.

On the inside, the major changes include steering mounted audio controls, a new instrument cluster, new centre console with an updated infotainment system and centre armrest with a storage box, all of which endeavour to give the SUV a more classy feel.

We are yet to learn when the new Duster will be available though, and how much it will cost in India. The facelifted Renault Duster will be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo.
