The Indian market has seen mid-life special editions become the norm and Renault has gone the same way with the introduction of the Scala Travelogue Edition priced at Rs 8.47 lakh for the petrol and Rs 9.31 for the diesel both RxL variants (prices are ex-showroom Delhi). The special edition package will be only available with range topping variants, RxL and RxZ.

The powertrain bits are exactly the same as the standard model though the exteriors get some decals and a Travelogue Edition badge. The French analogue of Nissan’s Sunny will be offered in two colours, Metallic Black and Pearl White.

The interiors are where Renault has really spruced up the Scala and the car now comes with an integrated touch screen multimedia system that has an updated navigation with voice, reverse camera portability and a DVD Player. External devices can be connected via Bluetooth, USB and AUX input while steering mounted buttons can control the device. Renault has equipped the Scala Travelogue Edition with a rear sun shade, illuminated scuff plates, ORVM integrated turning lights and a muffler cutter.

The Rs 50,000 premium over the standard petrol model and the almost Rs 1 lakh increase over the regular diesel model may have potential buyers digging deeper into their pockets but greater attention to the rear of the car may be just the ticket to help boost sales. The Scala, and its badge re-engineered cousin the Nissan Sunny, are known to offer as much space in the rear as the BMW 7-Series that starts at Rs 1 crore.
