India is a prime market for people movers with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia, and Honda’s Mobilio racking up significant sales. Renault isn’t one to be left behind, and its offering will not be a re-badged Evalia (like the Duster/Terrano or Micra/Pulse re-badging). The French manufacturer has teased its own product in this segment, the Lodgy.

Like the Duster, the Lodgy is originally a Dacia model, and it also shares its platform with the compact SUV, which should translate to a good ride/handling set-up. Besides seating seven (thanks to the 2810mm wheelbase), the Lodgy will come with the faithful 1.5-litre K9K diesel motor, known for its efficiency while offering decent performance. Being a full-sized MPV (by Indian standards that means an over 4.5m length), the Renault Lodgy should arrive in the first half of 2015 to take on the likes of Toyota’s Innova. Expected prices should also put it in competition with Honda’s Mobilio.
