Royal Enfield just announced pricing and availability of their new range of “Despatch” motorcycles, designed as a homage to the despatch riders of the armed forces that carried messages between locations. The motorcycles are based on the Classic range with their 500cc engines, and are available in two colours: blue and brown, both with a camouflage pattern at Rs 224,752 on-road, Mumbai. The green/olive drab of the original despatch vehicles is not available due to government regulations. The bikes will be available as a limited run of 200 motorcycles per colour (for India), and we assume there will be separate allotments for overseas markets.

Primarily a cosmetic variant, the Despatch bikes get blacked-out engines and exhausts, an Italian leather seat and leather strap/buckle to hold the airbox in place. The camo pattern is transferred onto the bike using a special film transfer technique which ensures that no two bikes have the same pattern. In a departure for Royal Enfield, the bikes must be booked online at store.royalenfield.com starting 10AM on July 15, following which customers can choose to take delivery at their local dealership.

The bikes are complemented by a range of despatch rider-inspired apparel and gear including jackets, boots, t-shirt and such, available at Royal Enfield stores/dealers.
