Striking Figo concept unveiled in Delhi
Another entrant into the increasingly competitive compact sedan segment is Ford’s Figo compact sedan concept which is expected to be showcased at the forthcoming Auto Expo. All cars in this segment have a length of less than 4m so as to avail tax exemptions under the Indian government’s policy. The Figo compact sedan concept is expected to hit the roads some time in 2015 where it will take on the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai’s newly launched Xcent and Tata’s Zest. The Figo concept sedan will replace the Classic (the re-badged, last generation Fiesta) when it is launched though the hatchback version of this car will take a little longer to replace the current Figo being sold.
Ford is yet to reveal powertrain and interior details along with pricing though we know that the compact sedan is built on Ford’s B562 platform and will be manufactured at the plant in Sanand, Gujarat. We can expect the new compact sedan concept to share its heart with the Ford EcoSport including the 1.5-litre ‘Sigma’ petrol or the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol, and also the 1.5-litre DV5 turbo-diesel engine.
We will have to wait for the 12th Auto Expo for more information.
