The Auto Expo held in Delhi during the month of February saw Maruti Suzuki unveiling the Ciaz concept sedan which would take the place of the SX-4 globally. At the ongoing Beijing Motor Show, Suzuki has confirmed that the sedan concept is edging closer to production by showcasing the Alivio sedan concept. The concept sedan was originally code-named YL1.

The Alivio concept doesn’t look all that different from the Ciaz concept though there are light changes. The turning signals on the ORVMs are smaller and stubbier while the boot is less flush with the bumper. The increased ride height is proof that the car is near production and we could expect it to be sold in India by mid-2015. It retains the sporty character that the Ciaz exuded though in a more pragmatic manner. The black and silver multi-spoke alloy wheels suited the Ciaz but have been replaced by rather bland looking ones.

Suzuki has revealed some details about the near-production concept like its dimensions (4,545mm long, 1,730mm wide and 1,475mm tall) and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder DOHC engine that will power the Alivio. The Japanese manufacturer announced that the engine would be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The crossover version of the SX-4 will arrive in India before the production model of the Alivio concept sedan[/caption]

When the sedan does come to India, it is likely to share powertrain and transmission options with the Maruti Suzuki SX-4 Cross that will arrive earlier than the Alivio concept.
