The Suzuki S-Cross, when it comes to India later this year or early next year, will be a premium hatchback (as it is over four metres in length) and ventures into the territory formerly occupied by the Chevrolet SR-V. The crossover was first showcased at the 2013 Geneva Motor show and was made in collaboration with Fiat.

The S-Cross nose previews the front end of the facelifted SX4 that will come to India around the same time though keeping with the crossover positioning this car is replete with black cladding all around. The raised ground clearance and height also make it look substantial.

Though the S-Cross is available with all-wheel drive internationally, India might only get front-wheel drive version so as to keep costs in check. The SX4’s 1.6-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesels engines will be carried over but the S-Cross might also get the 1.6-litre diesel engine (made under license from Fiat), the first Maruti car to employ this 1.6L oil burner. Abroad, the S-Cross’s engines are mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT ‘box which we hope will make it to the Indian version as well. Expect prices to range from Rs 10–12 lakh.
