Tata launches Ultra series of light commercial trucks

Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle division launched their ‘Ultra’ range of intermediate and light commercial trucks in Chennai today. The first products from the new Ultra series are the Ultra 812 and Ultra 912 which has been priced at Rs 10.53 lakh and Rs 10.94 lakh, ex-showroom Chennai. Showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, the Ultra series has been developed alongside the Starbus Ultra bus series, which boasts of passenger and driver comfort, improved NVH, fuel efficiency and low cost of ownership.

The Ultra range is equipped with disc brakes and tubeless radial tyres which is an industry first according to the manufacturer. With the Ultra series, Tata has taken a different design principle like they did with the Prima series of premium trucks. The design is contemporary and on par with the new generation of trucks. The Ultra trucks come equipped with tiltable and telescopic steering column adjustable for rake and reach, and updated instrument cluster with economy mode indicators. Other features include lockable glove-box, bottle holders, mobile charging points and option of HVAC. The trucks will be sold in a host of colour options namely, Sardinia Red, Arctic White, Arizona Blue and Yellow shades. The Ultra series will sell in 8 ton and 10 ton gross vehicle weight (GVW) options and the range will further expand from 5 ton to 15 ton trucks in the future. The available load body lengths are 14, 17 and 20-feet for now and more options in shorter and longer decks will be available further down the line.
